Strong Third Quarter Propels Panthers to Victory Over Florida Memorial

The Florida Tech women’s basketball team recorded their third straight exhibition victory with a 61-47 win over the Florida Memorial on Lions, Friday at the Clemente Center. The win wraps up the exhibition season for the Panthers, who open the regular season with a Sunshine State Conference showdown at Rollins on Wednesday.

The Panthers were led by DeLise Williams‘ 13 points on Friday, with Tanease Richardson chipped in with nine, while Markeema Crawford, Tereza Sedlakova, Gudlaug Juliusdottir and Aniquah Swan all contributed six points.

The Panthers led for all of the first quarter, but the Lions kept it close throughout, trailing the Panthers 13-10. The second quarter went much the same way, with a couple ties before the Lions got their first lead of the game, 16-15 with 7:33 to go in the half. The rest of the quarter went back-and-forth, with the Panthers holding a 28-27 lead as the two teams went to the locker room.

The Third quarter saw Florida Memorial get to within one at 32-31, with 5:57 to go before the Panthers went on a 9-0 run to widen their lead to 41-31 with 2:03 to go. The run concluded with a jumper by Amanda Allen and included a three-ball from Cheyenne Scott. A three by Kareese Johnson with 33 seconds left and a free-throw by Swan with 13 seconds left, made it 47-33. It concluded a 19-6 quarter for the Panthers.

The fourth quarter never saw the Lions get closer than 14 points and they trailed by as many as 18 early in the quarter. They did match the Panthers with 14 points in that final quarter.

Florida Tech shot 34.9 percent from the field, going 22-of-63. They were only 3-of-13 from behind the arc, making all three in the second half. They outrebounded Florida Memorial 41-34.
