The Florida Tech women’s soccer team played their first match at Rick Stottler Field since September 15th on Saturday and they picked up right where they left off, with a 3-0 win over Saint Leo. Their last home game was a 3-0 win over Palm Beach Atlantic.

Kelley Johnson scored two goals on Saturday, the first and last goals of the game, both coming in the second half.

Saturday’s game saw the goaltenders shine in the first half, with Maria Sanchez Recuero with three saves and Julia Ortiz with two. Recuero was helped early in the match when Kiana Zanganeh kept a ball from crossing the line, 4:59 into the match.

The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Saint Leo led in overall shots, 7-5.

Brianna Thompson got the first shot of the second half for the Lions, with Recuero saving it. Kelley Johnson came in as a substitute for Elisabeth Stoffel at the 61:20 mark and that move proved to be a good call by head coach Jessica Monarch because Keira McCarthy found her 1:53 after she was inserted and Johnson was able to get it by Ortiz to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Johnson returned the favor just shy of a minute and a half later when she fed McCarthy, who banged it home to make it 2-0. Johnson’s last goal came with 8:06 left in the match, with Samantha Grim getting the assist.

Florida Tech (5-5-1, 2-2 SSC) took 16 shots, eight of those were on goal, with Ortiz coming up with three saves. Recuero made six saves on the night.
