Panthers Offense Explodes in Series Finale

Donny Rieber Jr | Sports Lowdown Raul Quintero knocked in three runs and scored one in the Panthers 13-2 win on Sunday.

The Florida Tech baseball team got their second win of the weekend on Sunday, beating Spring Hill 13-2 in the final game of a three-game series.

The Panthers (3-5) had 16 hits on Sunday, led by Jacob Buser, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Raul Quintero and James Gronberg each had two hits and three RBIs.

Buser’s home run came with two outs in the top of the first, getting the Panthers on the board. Florida Tech followed that with a six-run inning in the second, all the runs coming after Badgers starter Will Shaw recorded the first two outs.

Blaise Maris started the onslaught with a double. Jakob Newton followed with a walk and they were both chased home on a double by Pedro Rivera, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Quintero would single him home. After two walks and an error and a stolen base combined to bring home the fifth run, Shaw got the hook and Michael Romano proceeded to walk the first batter he faced in relief.

With Dylan Owens and Buser on, Rodnie Bernard ripped a two-run single to left, giving the Panthers a 7-0 lead.

Preston Schumacher got the start for the Panthers. The Badgers got to him in the fourth  with a double from Landon Powell, leading off the inning. He would come home later in the inning, when Schumacher had a pitch get away from him. Schumacher would walk another batter and throw another wild pitch, before being relieved by Justin Lorenz

Schumacher gave up five hits and one run in 3.1 innings of work. He walked three and struck out four.

Florida Tech added three more runs in the fifth inning. Alec Eldridge Maris and Newton hit consecutive singles to load the bases. Rivera was then hit by a pitch, putting the Panthers up 8-1. Quintero followed with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Gronberg gave the Panthers a 10-1 lead.

Buser followed with a double, but Rivera was cut down at the plate trying to score ending the inning.

An RBI single by Gronberg in the seventh inning made it 11-1. After Spring Hill answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, the Panthers put the finishing touches on this one in the top of the eighth, scoring two more runs on a sac fly by Quintero and an RBI single by Gronberg.
