Panthers Earn First Road Win Of Season

Donny Rieber Jr | Sports Lowdown Gracie Doane

The Florida Tech women’s basketball team played their best game of the season by far on Wednesday, picking up a 78-60 win over Embry-Riddle in Daytona.

The victory gave the Panthers their first road win in 10 games this season and it snapped a four-game Panthers losing streak. The loss ended a four-game winning streak for Embry-Riddle.

Tereza Sedlakova led the Panthers with 18 points, while Cheyenne Scott scored 17, all coming in the second half. Amanda Allen added 14 points and led the Panthers with 10 rebounds.

Florida Tech (8-17, 4-13 SSC) shot 55.8 percent from the floor, going 29-of-52 overall for the game. That includes 13-of23 in the second half. The Panthers were a perfect 6-for-6 from three in the first half and finished the game 8-of-11 (72.7 percent).

The Panthers led 5-4 early, but went over three minutes without a basket before Gudlaug Juliusdottir scored four points in a row, putting her team up 9-7 with 3:33 left in the quarter. That kicked off an 11-0 run for the Panthers that ended the first quarter and had them ahead 16-7. ERAU did not score in the final 4:34 of the stanza.

Nicole Tucker, who had 13 points for the Eagles, started the second quarter scoring six of the first eight points, both on threes. That cut the Panthers lead to 18-13. Gracie Doane would do her best to answer later in the quarter, knocking down two threes for the Panthers, and just like that, it was 28-16 with 3:58 gone by in the second.

Doane would hit another three with 1:18 left in the half, and the Panthers went to the locker room having made good on seven of the last nine shots in the quarter and had a 41-27 lead at the break.

The third quarter was closer, with the Panthers outscoring the Eagles 22-17. Allen scored the first five points of the quarter for the Panthers, who were helped by a 9-0 run later in the quarter. Scott also did her part with and 11 points, after not scoring in the first half.

Embry-Riddle (16-9, 11-7 SSC) trailed by 18 with just a couple minutes gone in the fourth quarter, but they did cut it to 12 with 2:22 left. That was as close as they would get, as the Panthers went on an 8-0 run late, broken only by the final ERAU bucket of the game by Sydney Jones, making it 78-60 at the horn.
