321Sportscast HS Football Recap – Week 5

By: Donny Rieber

It was another great night of high school action around Brevard County Friday night.

Rockledge 20 Viera 6

There was a lot of uncertainty for Rockledge this week as they traveled to take on the Viera Hawks in a game seen on 321Sportscast. The Raiders were down 10 players including eight suspensions, resulting from last week’s scuffle with Eau Gallie that brought an abrupt halt to that game.

In the end, it didn’t matter as the Raiders (4-0) rode a 13-point first quarter to the victory. Elias Allen found Rian Black for a 35-yard score and Jake Nobles kicked field goals of 27 and 45 yards. Allen would scamper in from 15 yards for the only points of the second quarter.

Bryce Norton returned for Viera (1-2) under center in the second quarter of this game and his pass to Davis Malinger from 10 yards out with 10:24 left in the game were the only points the Hawks would muster.

Eau Gallie 33 Holy Trinity 7

In the second 321Sportscast game of the night, Eau Gallie (3-1) broke a 7-7 first quarter tie with a 33-yard pass from Cade Ross to Jayden Campbell with 2:21 left in the second quarter. Ross would find Blevins Kameron from nine yards out to take a 19-7 lead in the third quarter, and they salted it away in the fourth thanks to an 85-yard interception return from Jordan Blackmon with 11:28 to go. It was Blackmon’s second touchdown of the night.

Campbell would get his second touchdown of the night with 1:51 to go in the game.

Cocoa 30 Heritage 9

The Cocoa Tigers (3-1) got three touchdowns from Caziah Holmes, on their way to a 30-9 win over Heritage. With the game tied at 9, Holmes got going in the third quarter with a big 64-yard pass from DJ Arroyo. Holmes’s second touchdown was a 44-yard run, and a two-point conversion to make it 23-9 with 3:09 to go in the third. His final touchdown run was good for seven yards, capping the 21-point win.

Vero Beach 35 Merritt Island 12

Jaden Meizinger had runs of 12, 54, and two yards to help Vero Beach roll to victory over the Mustangs. Michael Moss found Mitchell Buck for a 40-yard touchdown late in the fourth for the Mustangs only touchdown. Bradley Denaburg had field goals of 27 and 24 yards for Merritt Island.

Melbourne Central Catholic 39 Archbishop McCarthy 7

MCC (1-2) dispatched Archbishop McCarthy out of Ft. Lauderdale quite easily on Friday. Tevon Brown ran for three touchdowns and caught another, as the Hustlers dropped Archbishop McCarthy to 0-5.

Astronaut War Eagles 27 Palm Bay Pirates 7

Jaiden Dollard had two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter for Astronaut, before DJ Pearson’s 65-yard kickoff return got the Pirates on the board, making it 13-7. Dollard would strike again in the third quarter, with his third score of the night and the War Eagles would go on to the 20-point win.

Bayside 35 Space Coast 7

Ravion Smith had two touchdown runs and Chase Smith had a 25-yard interception return, as the Bears (2-2) rolled to victory over Space Coast. Corey Anderson’s 1-yard run in the fourth quarter garnered the only points for the Vipers (2-2).

Satellite 31 Pine Ridge 13

John Hinkell threw touchdown passes to Danny Colby (27 yards), and Garrett Tantius in the first quarter and the Scorpions (3-1) were up early. Gage Malkin had touchdown runs of eight and 11 yards in the third quarter, giving Satellite a 31-7 lead.

Melbourne 42 Titusville 0

Melbourne (4-1) had the largest margin of victory on this night, routing the Terriers (1-2). Antonio Wright had three of the five rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs, scoring on runs of seven, five and four yards. Quarterback Justin Popovich had the other rushing touchdown, as he went in from one yard out, capping the scoring.
