EFSC Dominates Morton in Opener

It was a good night on the pitch for the fifth-ranked Eastern Florida State College men’s team on Thursday. The Titans tamed the No. 19 Morton College Panthers 7-1 at the Titan Soccer Complex.

“I was really impressed with the mentality of the team,” said Titans head coach Oliver Twelvetrees after the game. “They were cohesive in all phases of the game.”

Freshman Aedon Kyra scored the first two EFSC goals. His first came on a set-piece, starting with a corner kick from freshman Mario Licor, who booted it in, and Kyra was there to bang it off the post and in with 26:04 left in the half.

Kyra’s second goal came on a penalty kick just over five minutes later. Sophomore Abdel Kuku had a penalty kick chance with 13:24 left in the first half, but his shot banged off the crossbar.

Freshman Levonte Johnson would make it 3-0 when he made a nice move to deke the Morton goalie. The Titans lead would grow to 4-0 before the half thanks to a goal by freshman Damen Marcu, who got a nice feed in front from a streaking Johnson and put it by a diving Lukas Palma.

The Panthers’ only goal came on a penalty kick early in the second half. Patryk Kibler got it by Titans goalie Hayden Sarjian, making it 4-1, just 1:28 into the second half.

Leonardo Marcondes took advantage of a Panther turnover, scoring into the upper corner to give the home team a 5-1 lead. Another Morton turnover minutes later resulted in Johnson’s second goal of the night, and sophomore Chris Dilan capped the scoring making a nice move around a defender and beating Palma with less than four minutes to go.

“Levonte was very positive in his play, and got two goals and one assist,” said Twelvetrees. “There was a lot of unselfish play out there today. The unselfishness and their willingness to work for each other is probably what I am happiest about.”

EFSC will be on the road this weekend in Baltimore, for two key non-conference contests. They will play CCBC Essex on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and take on Monroe College on Sunday, at 2:00 p.m.

The Titans’ next home match is scheduled for September 30 against Laramie County Community College at 6:00 p.m.
