Brevard County Football Recap – Week 2

Week two of Brevard County High School Football was a night of offensive fireworks and lopsided scoreboard readings. Here is a quick recap of Friday’s action from around the Space Coast.

Cocoa 56, Palm Bay 0

O.J. Ross had two rushing touchdowns and DJ Arroyo passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, as the Cocoa Tigers (2-0) rolled to a 56-0 win over the Palm Bay Pirates (0-2). 

Recruiting note: Davis Mallinger who caught a 20-yard pass from Arroyo has changed his college commitment from UCF to West Virginia.

Next week: The Tigers visit Melbourne, and the Pirates play at Viera.

Viera 42, Heritage 0

CJ Simms had five touchdown passes and ran one in for good measure as the Viera Hawks (2-0) toppled the Heritage Panthers (0-2) 42-0.

Simms found Zak Sedaros for three of those touchdowns and had two more to Caleb Osburn, including a 55-yarder in the second quarter.

Next Week: The Hawks host Palm Bay, while the Panthers host Eau Gallie.

Astronaut 40, Cocoa Beach 0

Brevard Sports Network’s Player of the Week in week one was Astronaut War Eagles running back Abreon Torres. He made his case for the honor again in week two, with five rushing touchdowns in a 40-0 win over Cocoa Beach (0-2).

Torres had runs of 5, 7, 9, 11, and 37 yards. Antonio Caito had a 66-yard pass to Keneth Dixon in the first quarter as Astronaut fell to 0-2.

Next week: Astronaut hosts rival Titusville. The Minutemen host MCC.

Merritt Island 34, Holy Trinity 27 

In the closest contest of the night, the Mustangs (2-0) outlasted Holy Trinity (1-1) 34-27. 

In his preview of this game, BSN’s Alan Zlotorzynski said that he wouldn’t be surprised if the game came down

To the foot of Brady Denaburg. Although the game didn’t come down to a field goal. Denaburg chipped in with a 26-yard field goal and hit one from 57 yards out in the second quarter.

Holy Trinity quarterback Davyn Wydner had three touchdowns and ran for another.

Next Week: Merritt Island will host Space Coast next, and the Tigers will visit Satellite.

Eau Gallie 34, Bayside 6

Quarterback Tre Blake had three touchdown passes and added one on the ground. in the Commodores’ (2-0) big win over the Bears (0-2). Bayside’s only touchdown of the night was a 25-yard pass from Logan Brabham to Donnie Cullen early in the fourth quarter.

Rockledge 40, Melbourne 0

Elias Allen and Bryce Norton were a very successful two-headed monster for the Raiders (2-0) in week two. Allen had two touchdown passes including a 54-yarder to Bryce Norton. Norton also had a 30-yard run in this one. Avery Smith, Jalen Housey, and Raheim Sanders each had a rushing touchdown.

Satellite 42, Titusville 6

The Satellite Scorpions took care of business against the Titusville Terriers on Friday, moving their record to 2-0. Gage Malkin had three touchdown passes to go along with a 45-yard punt return from Danny Colby and a fumble return from Caleb Griffith. 

Titusville’s only touchdown of the game came as the fourth quarter came to a close. 

MCC 23, Space Coast 0

The Hustlers (1-1) got their first win of the season with a 23-0 victory over the Vipers (0-2).

MCC running back DeAndre Pearson-Blake who had a big week last week backed it up in this game with a 13-yard scamper. The Hustlers also got a 60-yard pick-6 from senior Tevon “Scoot” Brown.
