BREVARD SPORTS NETWORK SPRING FOOTBALL PREVIEW – Bayside Bears

The Bayside Bears finished with a record of 3-7 in 2019 under head coach Corey Broomfield. It was a tough season, but the Bears did get two of their wins at home, including a 35-7 win over Space Coast on September 20, and a 54-20 win over Gateway on October 18 against Gateway.

They lost to Heritage 13-7 on October 11, before breaking a three-game losing streak with that win over Gateway.

Junior quarterback Logan Brabham who had two touchdowns in the Gateway win, including a 50-yarder to junior Chase Smith. Smith also had an interception on defense in that game. Both players should be back in 2020.

Despite the record, Bayside only had a -0.6 scoring differential, giving up 22.4 points per game, while scoring 21.8. They finished with a 9.9 power rating as a member of Class 6A District 9.

There will be big shoes to fill at the running back position, as Ravion Smith has graduated. Gino Abbruzzese should be the guy to do that this coming season.

Wide receiver Luis Sanchez was a great weapon for Brabham in 2019, but he has graduated, opening the door for guys like Davonney Voltaire, Robert Lewis, and maybe Hunter Nudd, who are all juniors. Obviously, at this early date, a lot can change as far as personnel goes, so these are projections at this point.

The defense should be in good shape this season with returning juniors including Tahjai Graham, Smith at linebacker, along with Ja’mari Willis, and Cameron Gerst among others.

The Bears will open their season at home against Akelynn’s Angels Christian Academy out of Winter Haven, Florida on August 21. Auburndale will visit on September 25, and familiar foe Eau Gallie will visit on October 7. All games start at 7:00 p.m.
