The Florida Tech men’s lacrosse team got their first win of 2021 on Wednesday, beating the Rollins College Tars 15-9 at Panther Field on the Olin Complex.

Reid Chaconas came out like a house of fire, scoring all four of his goals in the first quarter. He ended the day with four goals and an assist, tallying 11 shots. He now has eight goals on the season.  Zach Rozgonyi had a hat-trick and an assist and Luke Jayne had two goals and two assists, as did Chandler Hake. Nate Deplancke netted two, and Justin Williams and Patrick Stewart had single tallies.

Panthers’ goalie Kyle Renz went the distance in the cage, making 11 saves. Cody Iserman played the first half, while Patrick Thomas played the second half.

The Tars (0-1) were led by Ryan Dunn and Finn Jent who each had a hat trick. Dunn also added an assist.

Chaconas got the scoring started with 13:54 left and then with 13:16 showing on the first-quarter clock, the game was stopped for lightning and the delay lasted just about 85 minutes. That didn’t slow Chaconas down as he got his second of the day, just after Rollins had tied the score at one.

Dunn and Jayne traded goals before Chaconas netted his hat trick goal, giving the Panthers a 4-2 lead. Jent would answer, but Chaconas would score his fourth of the day with 15 seconds left in the first quarter, making it a 5-3 game.

Hake scored back-to-back goals early in the second quarter, making it 7-3, and Deplancke made it a five-goal cushion. Dunn would score on the man-up for Rollins, closing the gap to 8-4 to end the first half.

Rozgonyi scored 36 seconds into the third quarter and Deplancke got one a couple of minutes later, making it 10-4. Rollins got one back before Williams and Jayne scored consecutive goals for the Panthers, making it 12-5.

Rollins scored three straight bridging the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth. Jent got two of those, helping Rollins to close the gap to 12-8.

Rozgonyi and Stewart scored 39 seconds apart to make it 14-8 before Blake Buell closed the gap to five. Rozgonyi got his hat trick with 4:57 to go, and the Panthers’ defense held Rollins off the board until the horn sounded.
