The #20 Florida Tech women’s soccer team got a much needed conference victory on Wednesday, beating the Eckerd Tritons 1-0 in overtime. It was the first Sunshine State Conference victory of the season for Florida Tech and brought their overall record to 4-2–2

Marem Ndiongue set the game winner in motion when she took the ball deep inside the 18-yard box and sent a laser shot toward goal that Tritons goalie Cadence Talbert got a hand on and knocked it up in the air. When it came down Panthers junior Allyn Jamie was there to tap it in and give the visitors a walk-off victory.

Florida Tech (4-2-2, 1-2-1 SSC) got two shots from Kate Frazier in the first seven minutes of the match and they only had two more shots in the half. Eckerd got off three shots in the first half with their best chance coming on a free kick by Aisling Spillane in the 22nd minute that went off the crossbar.

Florida Tech goalie Maria Sanchez Recuero had one save in the half as did Eckerd netminder Cadence Talbert.

The Tritons (4-4-1, 2-2 SSC) had two shots in the 68th minute that Sanchez Recuero had to make saves on. They had two more shots in the 80th minute that came 11 seconds apart. Sanchez Recuero was there again to keep the game scoreless.

The Panthers took three shots in the final 10 minutes as Bryson Boyer, Alyssa Bartle, and Hanna Mansson all tested Talbert. Sanchez Recuero was forced out beyond the 18-yard box in the final 20 seconds, as she came out the ball drifted beyond her and the Tritons had a golden opportunity that was taken away by an Eckerd foul as they were chasing the ball down.

With that, regulation ended with the Panthers holding a 10-7 shot advantage. Eckerd with that strong second half push ended up with a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

That set up the golden goal 2:40 into overtime with Ndiongue and Jamie combining to give the Panthers the victory.
