Mocs’ Hang on Against Panthers

The Florida Tech men traveled to Lakeland on Saturday, to take on the Florida Southern Moccasins in a Sunshine State Conference match. The home team got two goals in the first 26 minutes of the match and hung on to beat the Panthers, 2-1.

The Panthers(4-4, 1-3 SSC)  only goal of the game came off the foot of Guillermo Segovia Marcos early in the second half.

Florida Tech goalie Nick Brady faced four shots and saved two. The Mocs took 11 shots to the Panthers nine. Florida Southern goalie Mars Gohier had three saves on four shots.

The Mocs (2-6-3, 1-4-1 SSC) got a goal from Luca Bernoth at the 18:54 mark and James Meehan followed that with a tally at 25:24. Meehan got another chance 41 seconds later but Brady was there to stop it.

It took just 1:57 into the second half for the Panthers to get on the board. Juan Masqueda sent a pass into the box that went off a Mocs’ defender and Segovia Marcos was there to head the ball in, closing the gap to 2-1.

Fabio Amaral (66:15) and Masqueda (86:42) each had a bid to tie the game but Gohier was there for the save on both occasions.

Florida Tech’s Collin Robidoux picked up one yellow card at 70:31, and another less than five minutes later. The second yellow is an automatic red, so Robidoux will not be able to play in the Panthers next game on Wednesday.
