Panther Women Draw Against Lions

After their big win on Tuesday against No. 2 Columbus State, the Florida Tech women returned to the Stottler Field pitch Saturday to take on the Saint Leo Lions. After 110 minutes of soccer, nothing was decided and the match ended in a scoreless tie.

This was the fourth tie of the season for the Panthers who are now 5-2-4 overall and 1-2-3 in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo moved to 2-8-2 and 1-4-1 in the conference.

Saint Leo did not manage a shot on goal against Florida Tech netminder Maria Sanchez Recuero. The Lions did send nine shots toward the net. On the other side, Florida Tech bombarded Lions goalie Maitane Bravo with 11 shots on goal, but she was up to the task on each one. Florida Tech sent 23 shots toward the goal overall.

Mayara Queiroz Reis, who scored both goals in the win over Columbus State did have four shots in this match, three on goal. Hanna Mansson also had four, with one on net.

The Panthers had a great chance at the 67:01 mark when a shot by Allyn Jaime was headed toward a yawning net. Bravo had vacated and got caught out of position. SLU defender Alexa Guido had to bail Bravo out and kick the ball out of harm’s way.

In the second overtime, Lions player Aleysha Richards picked up her second yellow card and that quickly turns red meaning she is out of the game and SLU goes down a player. Just over three minutes later at 107:12, Queiroz Reis got her head on the ball and Bravo had to make a big save as that shot looked ticketed for the net.
