The Florida Tech Panthers (7-2-5, 3-2-4 SSC) continued their winning ways on Saturday, taking down the Tampa Spartans 2-1 at Pepin Field.

Marem Ndiongue and Hanna Mansson were the Florida Tech goal scorers, while Stephanie deLaforcade got Tampa on the board with a goal early in the second half.

The Spartans (7-7-1, 6-4 SSC) out shot the Panthers 15-10 with the Panthers holding an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. Florida Tech goalie Paige Lewkutz made her second consecutive start in goal and made six saves. Tampa goalie Lovisa Camel also made six stops.

Ndiongue got the Panthers on the board 1:09 into the match when a ball was launched into the Panthers 18-yard box by Mayara Queiroz Reis and looked like it bounced off a Tampa player. Ndiongue was there to kick it out of mid air and into the back of the net, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Tampa had a chance in the 16th minute when Katherine Hostage had a shot go high off the crossbar. Their best chance of the first half came with 8:15 left when Stephanie deLaforcade, went into the box and Lewkutz came out to cut off the angle. The shot was blocked by a Florida Tech defender and the Panthers held their lead.

It took 43 seconds for the Panthers to get it back down field as Mansson sent what looked like a pretty innocent shot toward the net. It looked like Camel had it, but it went off her hands and slowly over the goal line to extend the Panthers lead to 2-0.

Florida Tech had 10 shots in the first half to Tampa’s eight. Each goalie had four saves.

Tampa’s deLaforcade scored 4:48 into the second half. Elena Barr found her  just inside the penalty arc and her shot got by a diving Lewkutz.
