Panthers Sweep Doubleheader Against Tuskegee

Following their 24-2 victory on Friday night, the Panthers completed the series sweep of Tuskegee on Saturday with a 14-2 game one win and a 6-3 victory in game two.

Justin Lorenz (1-0) got the win in game one, as the Panthers offense had 15 hits in the lopsided victory. Lorenz pitched six innings, allowing three hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out two, throwing 70 pitches.

Brett Parrish and Dylan Owens led the Panthers, each going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Dylan Dohanos and Jakob Newton had two hits and two RBIs each and Sam Schner had two hits and an RBI.

Parrish had an RBI single in the first and after Tuskegee tied the game in the top of the third, the Panthers answered with three in the bottom of the frame. Parrish knocked in a run with a single, and Owens brought in two with a single, upping the lead to 4-1.

A five-run fourth put the game out of reach, with Dohanos driving home two with a single, and Parrish chasing home two with a double, making it an 8-1 game. The fifth run was brought in after an Owens single.

The Panthers added five more in the bottom of the sixth, giving them the 12-run differential.

Freshman Noah Steckley got the start for the Panthers in game two for Florida Tech. He pitched three innings. He gave up a run on two hits and struck out four but did not qualify for the win. Daniel Vassallo did get the victory with his 2.1 innings of work, striking out three. Zach Rodgers and Alex Carpenter finished the game with Carpenter earning the save.

The Panthers (3-1) scored single runs in the first and second inning. An error brought the first run home and a single by Schner. They added another run in the fourth on a Paul Castillo triple, giving the home team a 3-1 lead.

Alec Eldridge and Castillo had RBI singles in a three-run fifth. The final run came on a bases-loaded walk to Josh Ford.

Tuskegee (0-3) got two back in the sixth but came up empty in the seventh and final inning.

The Panthers homestand continues on Friday, February 11 against Bentley. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
