Panthers Get Comeback Win Over Bulldogs

Florida Tech got off to a good start in the Florida Tech Invitational on Friday, beating Wingate in come from behind fashion, winning 3-2 at The Launch Pad Complex in Cocoa.

Florida Tech (3-2) had eight hits in the game with Jolie Miracle and Chloe French each getting two.

Alex Hendrian got the start for the Panthers in the circle. Against Raechel Cutcher for the Bulldogs. 

Wingate (4-1) got on the board first with RBI singles by Laney McLaurin and Hannah Reeves, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Florida Tech got a run back in the bottom of the frame with singles from French and Tori Szrom, putting runners at the corners. Jolie Miracle singled home French to make it 2-1.

The Panthers threatened in the bottom of the fourth, leaving runners at second and third. A hit-by-pitch, a single by Ashley Campbell, and a wild pitch contributed, but the Bulldogs wiggled out of trouble.

Hendrian pitched four full innings before giving way to Sam Guider. Hendrian allowed two runs on six hits, walked three, and struck out three. She threw 50 of her 83 pitches for strikes.

The Panthers’ offense turned the game around in the bottom of the sixth. Miracle doubled to center and Peyton Anders was called on to pinch run. After Allison Platon was hit by a pitch, Campbell sacrificed both runners sixty feet. Mikayla Wessel brought both runners home with a single, and the Panthers jumped into the lead, 3-2.

Guider (3-1) stranded two runners in the top of the seventh, keeping Wingate off the board and giving the Panthers their third straight win. Guider got the save, throwing the final three innings, allowing three hits, walking one, and striking out two. She threw 50 pitches, 32 strikes.
