Tiffin Hands Panthers Fourth Straight Loss

On an odd night at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field, the Tiffin Dragons beat the Florida Tech Panthers 17-8 in a game that ended early Wednesday morning.
The original start time for the game was 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, but the original crew of umpires did not show and the crew that was called in were ready to go just after 8:00 p.m. By the time the game ended, it was about six hours after the originally scheduled starter time.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 11-5. They have now lost four games in a row after winning 11 of their first 12.
Sam Orozco (1-1) got the start for the Panthers in this one. He ran into trouble in the third when the Dragons loaded the bases and Griffin Stevens cleared them with a triple. That was the end of the night for Orozco who gave way to Zach Rodgers. He allowed another run and Tiffin went up 4-0.
Florida Tech got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a Brett Parrish RBI single that scored Sam Schner.
The Dragons (4-8) put the game out of reach in the fourth with five more runs that included a Zach Campbell two-run single and a Cal Brazier two-run home run. It was 9-1 and the Dragons were far from done as they scored in every inning from the third through the ninth.
Hayden Kimball’s sac fly in the fourth made it 9-2. He would drive in another run in the eighth with a single.
The Dragons scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth, one more in the seventh, and two in both the eighth and ninth.
The Panthers did not go away quietly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the ninth. Jakob Newton homered and Schner scored ahead of him to make it 17-5. Luca Wentzel would single home Parrish to make it 17-6 and Jack Nagy and Dylan Dohanos hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it 17-8.
Stevens led Tiffin with a 5-for-6 night including one triple, five RBIs, and two runs. Cal Brazier was 4-for-6 with a home run, four RBIs, and scored twice. Tiffin pounded out 20 hits.
Dohanos was 3-for-5 with an RBI and Dohanos went 3-for-6 with an RBI. Paul Castillo, Nagy, and Kimball had two hits each as the Panthers had 16 hits as a team.
It wasn’t a good night for the Panthers hurlers Orozco took the loss while Zach Rodgers pitched 1.1 innings, allowing five runs, five hits, and struck out one. Liam Progulske pitched 2.2 innings allowing three runs, four hits, and striking out two.
Tyler Vermillion gave up a run on three hits in his one inning, while Preston Schumacher pitched two-thirds of an inning allowing two runs, one hit, and struck out three.
Andrew Dunham finished things up with two hits, two runs, and two strikeouts in 1.1 innings.
