Jaylyn Whitehead Throws Complete-Game Against Panthers

The No. 11 Rollins College Tars beat Florida Tech 4-0 in the baseball series opener in Winter Park on Friday. Tars starting pitcher Jaylyn Whitehead threw a complete-game two-hitter, improving to 8-1 on the season.

Rollins 30-11, 14-8 SSC) loaded the bases in the second, only to see Panthers starter Joey Hecht get out of the inning unscathed. Hecht was not so lucky in the third inning. After getting the first out, he allowed back-to-back home runs to Joey Rubin and Chase Achuff, giving the home team a 2-0 lead.

After allowing a single to start the bottom of the seventh, Hecht was relieved by Danny Vassallo. Vassallo allowed an RBI single to Adams Torres, which was charged to Hecht. Hecht allowed three runs on seven hits while walking one. He threw 91 pitches, 54 for strikes.

Jeslyn Whithead’s sacrifice fly later in the inning, made it 4-0. Vassallo would exit after the sac fly in favor of Aiden Pryzgoda, who got the final out of the inning. Vassallo gave up one run in 2/3rds of an inning. He threw 13 pitches, seven for strikes.

Pryzgoda got four outs over the final 1.1 innings, throwing seven of his 11 pitches for strikes.

Dylan Dohanos led off the game with a single and Alec Eldridge had a two-out single in the fourth, accounting for the Panthers’ only hits.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
