WSOC: Tritons Blank Panthers

The Florida Tech women’s soccer team couldn’t find their offense on Saturday, losing 3-0 to host Eckerd in a Sunshine State Conference tilt in St. Petersburg.

Eckerd goalie Casey Winn produced the clean sheet for the Tritons registering seven saves on the Panthers 13 shots. Her counterpart Maria Sanchez Recuero saw 12 of Eckerd’s 22 shots go on goal and she made nine saves.

Eckerd (4-2-1, 1-2 SSC) got on the board early. with Paula Astiazaran coming up with a rebound and banging it off the post, just 3:14 into the match. The assist went to Lashanti Williams.

Macey Hedelund had two corner kicks for the Panthers in the 11th minute, but they came up empty. Winn made her first save of the match 21:12 in, on a header by Keira McCarthy. She repeated the feat just over four minutes later, but Winn denied her again. McCarthy led the Panthers with five shots, three of those were on goal.

Winn denied shots by Maria Munoz and Elisabeth Stoffel, allowing the home team to go into the half with a 1-0 lead.

Stoffel got another chance 14:15 into the second half, but she was victimized by the crossbar. Munoz got the rebound, but Winn made the save. Hedlund took a corner kick 20 seconds later, but thePanthers couldn’t do anything with it.

Eckerd withstood all that pressure and added the second goal of the night at the 61:46 mark. Stephanie Linton took a pass from Teagan Payne and went low on Recuero to make it 2-0.

The final goal of the game came on a header by Cameron Westmoreland with 11:58 left in the match.

Florida Tech (4-4-1, 1-1 SSC) took six corner kicks in this match, a season high. The Panthers are back on the pitch Wednesday night when they travel to Fort Lauderdale to take on Nova Southeastern. that match will get underway at 7:00 p.m.
