Panthers Remain Undefeated at Home

Sunshine State Conference

The Florida Tech Panthers won their fifth home match of the season on Wednesday, beating Florida Southern 3-0 in a Sunshine State Conference match at Rick Stottler Field. It is the third home match that resulted in a 3-0 Panthers win this season.

Maria Sachez Recuero recorded her fourth shutout of the season on Wednesday. She played half of a fifth shutout on September 7, when Natalia Milashus and Recuero split 45 minutes against Delta State.

Recuero was pressed into action early on Wednesday, making a save on a header by Elanee Otto, 2:58 into the contest. Maria Munoz got the first shot of the match for the Panthers at the 14:05 mark and just 4:04 later, Nicole Barnett got her first goal of the season as she sent a shot from midfield, toward the net of Noelle Rolfsen and the ball bounced high over her head and into the goal, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Florida Tech (6-5-1, 3-2 SSC) scored the second goal of the game with 3:06 left in the first half when Keira McCarthy dished it to Veronica Thordardottir, who found some space and ripped it past Rolfsen.

McCarthy got one of her own in the second half when she was in the right place at the right time, grabbed a rebound and beat FSC goalie Tori Routt, who started the second half. For McCarthy, it was her seventh goal of the season and came with 26:33 left in the match.

The Panthers took seven of their 12 shots in that second half, with McCarthy’s goal being the only marker. Recuero made two saves on the evening. The Mocs’ managed just five shots overall.
