It was a pitching clinic on Thursday at Nancy Bottge Field, as Rollins and Florida Tech played a low-scoring game that was decided in the sixth inning as the Tars came out on top, 2-1. The loss evened the Panthers’ overall record at 11-11. They fell to 8-10 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Tina Velazquez Rolon retired the first 13 batters she faced, giving up two hits in the top of the fifth, both infield singles. Rollins left runners at second and third in the frame as Velazquez got the next two outs.

Her counterpart Ashley Worrell was just as effective for Rollins, allowing a leadoff triple to Cheyenne Nelson. She worked out of trouble and would not give up another hit until the bottom of the sixth when Mikayla Wessel beat out an infield single.

Rollins (15-1, 12-1 SSC) broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth when Ashley Troutman reached on a fielder’s choice and came home ahead of a two-run home run over the right-centerfield wall by Chelsea Peace, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Velazquez Rolon got a run back in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run against Worrell. That would be the only damage the Panthers would inflict, as Worrell ended the game soon after, allowing only three hits.

Rolon (2-2) got another complete game in this one, striking out six and walking one while allowing two runs on five hits. She threw 93 pitches, 62 strikes.

Worrell (9-1) allowed one run on three hits, throwing 90 pitches, 55 strikes. She too struck out six, while walking two.
