No. 17 Lynn Shuts Out Panthers in Season Finale

The Florida Tech men’s soccer team played their final game of the 2021 season on Tuesday, dropping a tough 1-0 decision to the nationally ranked Lynn Fighting Knights in Boca Raton.

The Panthers (5-8-1, 2-7-1 SSC) had Luis Tovar Romero, Sr. starting in goal and he showed himself well, saving two of three shots. The Panthers did not manage a shot on goal against Lynn keeper Patrick Nettekoven.

Lynn (12-3, 8-2 SSC) moved up from number 19 to number 17 in the national rankings that came out just prior to Tuesday’s contest. With the victory over the Panthers the Fighting Knights finished the regular season undefeated at home, moving to 7-0

The Panthers outshot the home team 5-4 in the first half only to see Lynn hold a 2-1 advantage in the second half. Much of this match was played in the middle third of the field.

The only goal of the game came when Alexandre Horveno took a corner kick 39:06 into the match that was headed away by Florida Tech and back out only to be gathered in by Michael Knoetzinger who let a long range howitzer go off his foot. It ricocheted off the far post and into the back of the net. Tovar Sr. had no chance to stop it.

Horveno’s corner that led to the goal was one of only three that Lynn had in the match. Florida Tech managed only one.

The official time of the goal was 39:46. It was Knoetzinger’s first goal of the season and held up as the game winner.
