The Florida Tech softball team (16-7, 4-3 SSC) rolled to their sixth consecutive victory on Friday, beating the Eckerd Tritons 2-0 in the first game of a three-game Sunshine State Conference weekend series in St. Petersburg.

After an amazing day for Alex Hendrian in Thursday’s doubleheader sweep of Tiffin that saw her get a save, and a win in the circle as well as the go-ahead double in game two. She was right back at it Friday night as she earned her second complete-game shutout of the season and improved her record to 6-2.

Cheyenne Nelson had two of the Panthers’ six hits while Chloe French and Mikayla Lewin each had a hit and an RBI.

The first two innings were scoreless as Hendrian and Eckerd pitcher Hannah Perkins kept their opponent off the board.

The Panthers got on the board in the top of the third. Nelson and French hit back-to-back one-out singles and Lewin stroked a double to right field, scoring Nelson. The second run came in the fifth. Wessel singled to start the inning and Nelson hit a high chopper to second. Wessel was moving on the pitch and made it all the way to third, despite the ball not leaving the infield.

A sacrifice fly by French was deep enough to score Wessel and give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Hendrian would make that stand up as she went the distance in the circle allowing four hits, walking three, and striking out six. She threw 113 pitches, 72 for strikes.

Perkins (4-4) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out three. She threw 90 pitches.
