For the second straight start, Florida Tech hurler Boris Villa gave the Panthers seven innings and 10 strikeouts, helping his team to a 7-2 win over the Eckerd Tritons on Friday at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
Villa (2-1) got a lot of help from his offense with six starters having a multi-hit night. The Panthers had 15 hits in all. Jakob Newton went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. He extended his hit streak to 19 games with an RBI triple in the bottom of the first.
Dylan Dohanos (2-for-5), Jack Nagy (2-for-5), Brett Parrish (2-for-3), Alec Eldridge (2-for-4), and Sam Schner (2-for-4) all contributed to the Panthers’ big night.
Florida Tech (1-5, 4-3 SSC) got after Eckerd starter Jacob Stipp early. After Dohanos singled to start the bottom of the first Newton tripled him in. Parrish knocked him in with a single and would score on an Alec Eldridge double, giving the home team a quick 3-0 lead.
Newton’s RBI double in the second and a Schner single in the third made it 5-0. They added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nagy and Newton singled to start the inning and they moved up on a Parrish sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch allowed Nagy to score to make it 6-0 and Eldridge chased Newton home with a single, capping the Panthers’ scoring.
Villa’s final numbers were impressive. He allowed three hits and walked three to go with his 10 strikeouts. He threw 101 pitches, 60 for strikes.

Eckerd reliever Tyler Venditti settled things down allowing two hits over four innings of work and not allowing a run. The Tritons did score twice in the top of the ninth against Panthers reliever Preston Schumacher, but he was able to limit the damage. He allowed two runs on five hits in two innings, walking one and striking out three.
