Kutztown Conquers Panthers

Florida Tech started their Tuesday afternoon with a win over Molloy but ended the night with a 6-1 loss to the Kutztown Golden Bears, ending a round-robin day of games at Nancy Bottge Field.

The Panthers managed four hits against Kutztown (9-4) with one of those coming off the bat of Cheyenne Nelson, giving her at least one hit in 16 straight games.

Sam Guider started in the circle for the Panthers against Bridget Bailey. The Panthers got singles from Mikayla Lewin and Chloe French in the second, but the inning ended in a rundown between second and third, and the home team came up empty.

Three singles in the top of the third got Kutztown on the board, with Jenna Lipowski knocking in Brianna Stocklin.

Florida Tech (21-11) got on the board in the bottom of the frame Mikayla Wessel reached on an error and went to second and Nelson singled her home to tie the game and extend her hitting streak.

Things were fairly quiet until the top of the seventh when the Golden Bears put up five runs. Kate Ostaszewski’s RBI single broke the 1-1 tie and Allison Platon took over for Guider in the circle with runners on second and third. 

Jenna Lipowski’s two-run double made it 4-1 and Brianna Hughes capped the inning with a two-run home run. 

Guider (8-5) allowed four runs on 11 hits, walking two and striking out three. She threw 99 pitches. Platon, who picked up the save in the earlier win over Molloy allowed two runs on two hits in one inning of work that saw her throw 26 pitches.

Bailey (6-2) went the distance for Kutztown giving up one run on four hits. She struck out one batter and threw 80 pitches. She retired 10 in a row and 13 of the last 14 Panthers.

Florida Tech hits the road on Friday to start a three-game series in Fort Lauderdale against Nova Southeastern. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
