Munoz Tallies lone Goal at Lynn

Maria Munoz scored her fifth goal of the season with 2:44 gone by Wednesday night, helping the Florida Tech Panthers score a 1-0 win over Lynn in a non-conference match.

Lynn (3-3) managed just eight shots in the match, including two on goal. The Fighting Knights took eight corner kicks, accounting for their best offensive chances, as the Panthers defense never really allowed the Fighting Knights to mount any sort of an offensive attack.

Maria Sanchez Recuero did her part in goal for the Panthers, earning her second clean sheet of the season, making two saves.

Munoz took seven shots overall, four of them on goal. Her first shot two minutes in went wide, but she got a second chance 44 seconds later and she rocketed one from the top left corner of the box that flew by Lynn goalie Lina Lundgren, into the top right corner of the net.

Emily Weisberg took Lynn’s first corner 16:09 into the match. Keira McCarthy took a pass from Munoz and took a shot that was whistled offside just as it hit the back of the net.

Weisberg’s second corner kick came at 19:27 and Lynn had a great chance with traffic in front of Recuero, but the Panthers were able to clear. Weisberg and Munoz traded shots minutes later, but both goalies made the save.

When the first half expired, Lynn had taken five shots (1 SOG) to FIT’s four (2 SOG). Each goalie made one save and the Fighting Knights took five corners.

The Panthers (4-3-1) got off to a fast start in the second half and put pressure on Lynn in the first five minutes. Veronica Thordardottir took a shot 2:57 in and Elisabeth Stoffel hit the post 24 seconds later. That was followed by a Stoffel header that was saved by Lundgren.

Munoz got back into the offense 9:50 into the half, but Lundgren made the save.

Tara Harris took consecutive corners for Lynn 51 seconds apart and one of them resulted in a header by Molly Bryans 18 minutes into the second half.

Much of the rest of the game was back-and-forth, but there weren’t a lot of great chances, as shots went high and wide on both sides.
