Guider Hurls Three-Hit Shutout

On Friday, the Florida Tech softball team won their third straight game, beating Lynn 4-1 in the lid lifter on a three-game series. Samantha Guider (11-6) allowed three hits in the circle for the Panthers as she pitched her sixth complete game of the season.

Mikayla Lewin and Tori Szrom got two hits each and Mikayla Wessel extended her hitting streak to seven games. Wessel got the Panthers started in the bottom of the first when she earned a walk against Fighting Knights starter Faith Miller. After stealing second, Cheyenne Nelson sacrificed her to third. An error allowed Wessel to score the first run and Lewin’s RBI single made it 2-0.

Lewin contributed in the field as well, making a sliding catch in right to end the top of the fourth. She then started the bottom of the fourth with a single and stole second. A sac bunt by Jolie Miracle got her to third and Ella Chang Gibson singled her in, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

Lynn (11-23, 0-16 SSC) got on the board with an unearned run in the fifth. Florida Tech answered with a run in the bottom of the frame. Wessel beat out a bunt single and proceeded to steal second and third. Nelson’s squeeze bunt brought Wessel in, putting the Panthers up by three.

The Panthers (26-15, 9-10 SSC) loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with nobody out but came up empty. Guider shut the visitors down in the top of the seventh, picking up her second strikeout. She walked two, with the run against her unearned. She threw 62 of her 90 pitches for strikes.
